Algoma voters return Schmidt, Dart; school referendum approved

In a night full of election upsets in Kewaunee County, only Algoma’s mayor and council members were returned to office.
Wayne Schmidt was reelected Mayor of Algoma, defeating Virginia Haske by a vote of 736 to 423. Schmidt has served as mayor for the last four years and also served as mayor from 1984 to 2002.
Voters also reelected District 4 council member Janice Dart who defeated challenger Terry Hannah by a vote of 230 to 98.
Voters in the Algoma School District also passed a $4.86 million referendum for improvements to the elementary school and other school facilities. The referendum passed by a vote of 1542 to 385.
