International Carp Championship Tournament planned for Kewaunee

The Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first Kewaunee International Carp Championship Tournament May 14-15.
The event is being chaired by Lee Young, a well-known angler in Kewaunee. The event will bring 40 anglers and their crews to Kewaunee for a two-day catch and release event. Participating fisherman will come from various parts of the United States and Europe. Each angler will be assigned a specific area in the county for fishing. Local businesses will sponsor each of these designated areas. As fish are caught, the anglers will be photographed next to the business’s sign.
Anglers will pay a $250 entry free and the tournament pays out 100 percent of those fees with estimated cash prizes totaling $10,000, including a championship $4,000 prize. The Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the trophies for the winners of various classes.
“This event will boost our Kewaunee economy when attendees patronize local businesses,” said Vicki Vollenweider, president of the Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce. “This is a new opportunity for Kewaunee to host this event annually and it is anticipated that it will grow each year.”
Sign sponsorship cost is only $20 per sign, or 6 signs for $100. Sponsorship checks should be made out to the Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce and mailed to 308 N. Main St, Kewaunee, WI 54216. For more information, contact Vollenweider at 920-388-3565.
