Jail Museum and History Center open Memorial Day

As part of the county’s Memorial Day celebrations, the Kewaunee County Historical Society’s History Center at 217 Ellis St. in Kewaunee will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

In addition, the Jail Museum in Courthouse Square, 613 Dodge St., will be open from noon to 4 p.m.  Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the historic jail cells and learn more about the “ghosts” that have been featured recently in several television shows and newspaper articles.

Kewaunee

High School principal retiring

Kewaunee High School Principal Mike Holtz plans to retire on July 1 after 12 years with the school district.

At its May meeting, the Kewaunee School Board approved the hiring of Mark Dax as the new high school principal beginning on July 1, 2016.

Luxemburg

Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing planned for June 6

The Luxemburg Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 12th annual Golf Outing on Monday, May 6, at NorthBrook Country Club.

Check-in will begin at 10:30 a.m. with golf beginning at 11:30 a.m.  There will be a dinner at 5 p.m.

The fee is $100 per person, which includes green fees, cart, prizes, dinner and drinks on the course.   Dinner only is $15.

The event will include a silent auction and a special Hole In One raffle sponsored by Overhead Door that will include a chance to win a 2016 Corvette.

Algoma

City-Wide Garage Sale planned July 8-9

Community Improvement of Algoma Main Street Program will again sponsor the 2016 Algoma Citywide Garage Sale.

The sale will run two days, Friday and Saturday, July 8-9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Individuals or groups hosting sales can register at the Main Street Center or the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center.

Final registration is Friday, July 1.  Stop at either location and fill out a form including name, address, phone number and a brief description of items at the sale.

The cost is $8 for a single family and $12 for a group.  Those who register will receive signs and balloons to mark their sale location.

Each sale location and its information will be printed on an official map that will be available starting July 7 at the Algoma Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center and online at algomamainstreet.org.

The local St. Vincent DePaul and the Kewaunee County Food Pantry will be open for those participants with remaining items at the end of the day on July 9.  For more information, call 920-487-5498.

Kewaunee County

Discount tickets available

The Kewaunee County Promotions and Recreation Department has made discount tickets available to Six Flags Great America, the Milwaukee County Zoo, The House on the Rock, and a variety of Wisconsin Dells attractions including Noah’s Ark, Mount Olympus, Original Wisconsin Ducks, Dells Army Ducks, Wild Thing Jet Boats, and Big Foot Zipline Tours.

Interested residents can call the department at (920) 388-0444 or visit www.co.kewaunee.wi.gov for more information.

The coupons are good for discounts ranging from 3 to 79 percent off the regular price. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Promotions & Recreation Department, E4280 County F, Kewaunee,  Monday through Thursday through Aug. 31.
