Ludlow: Another Hooray for Hollywood success

The 2017 version did not disappoint at all. In fact, I was laughing when we pulled into the parking lot at Heritage Farm in anticipation. And that was just the beginning.

There were 17 separate skits, and they made fun of just about everything. It was a riot. In fact, when it was over, my face hurt from laughing.

Hooray For Hollywood is one gigantic fundraiser that benefits 23 organizations all over Kewaunee County. They announced at the show that last year’s version raised over $40,000, and most if not all of that goes right back into the various nonprofit organizations. So it’s a win-win for everyone.

One of the things that Hooray For Hollywood sponsors is the Missoula Children’s Theater Residencies. There are two fellows from Missoula that come to the area. They interview interested children, select actors and actresses, rehearse for a week and on the weekend, they perform the play for the public. Usually, it involves about 50-plus kids who really enjoy doing it. And who knows, maybe some of those will end up on the stage for the Kewaunee production of H4H some day. This year, they will do “Aladdin” on July 1 in Kewaunee, “Frog Prince” on April 8 in Luxemburg-Casco, and “Gulliver’s Travels” on May 13 in Algoma.

Hooray for Hollywood is an annual event that has been going on for many years. It features 32 talented local residents as the cast and crew members, and they do a great job. It’s been held at Heritage Farm for I believe the past eight years. So thank you to everyone involved in this annual event that benefits the entire county. It’s much appreciated.

And speaking of winter, it’s really hard to believe it’s still February. The weather this past week has been unseasonably warm, but I’m definitely not complaining. As this is written, temperatures have been breaking records all over the area. But that will come to a halt by the end of the week when Old Man Winter returns Friday. At least it’s almost March, spring is just around the corner and most of the snow is gone except for a pile here and there. However, we might not be done with it yet. We have to keep reminding ourselves it is still winter. And in northeast Wisconsin, most anything can happen.

And I have one funny joke this week.

“A woman called an airline customer-service desk asking if she could take her dog on board. “Sure,” said the customer service person, “as long as you provide your own kennel.” She further explained that the kennel needed to be large enough for the dog to stand up, sit down, turn around, and roll over. The customer was flummoxed: “I’ll never be able to teach him all of that by tomorrow,” she replied.

Have a great week everyone!
