March 1 deadline for Door/Kewaunee Legislative Days

The deadline to register is March 1 for citizens to take part in this year’s Door/Kewaunee Legislative Days, which is scheduled for April 5-6.

Residents of Door and Kewaunee counties are invited to join this eighth annual mission to call on every legislator at the State Capitol in Madison this spring. Delegates will call on state legislators the afternoon of April 5 and be part of a reception with legislators and guests that evening. The remainder of the event will be reserved for visiting with state officials and selected state agencies.

The purpose is to educate state officials about Door and Kewaunee counties and to lobby for state action to help address local issues and concerns. Each year’s events are building directly on the success of prior Legislative Days events, which bring the specific concerns of the community directly to elected representatives and influential government appointees.

Critical to the success of this event is the active participation of at least 100 Door and Kewaunee county citizen representatives, so that at least one local delegate will visit with every legislator.

The cost to participate as a delegate is $30, which includes three meals and a logo polo shirt. Training sessions will be held prior to the event, so anyone can participate.

Door/Kewaunee Legislative Days will be headquartered at the Best Western Premier Park Hotel (formerly the Inn on The Park) on Capitol Square in downtown Madison. Most scheduled meetings and meals will be held at either Premier Park Hotel, the Tommy Thompson Commerce Building (201 W. Washington) or at the capitol building, which is across the street from the hotel.

Hotel reservations are the individual participant’s responsibility. A room block has been reserved at Premier Park Hotel with a special group rate of $129 for traditional rooms, $139 for deluxe rooms, and $169 for suites, per room per night. The group rate is only available until March 4. For reservations, call 608-285-8000 and say you are part of the “Door Kewaunee Legislative Days” group.

A volunteer committee is working to develop the 2017 legislative and state agency agenda topics and issues that will be presented in Madison. To provide input for the 2017 agenda, call Legislative Days Agenda Committee Chair Rob Burke at 920-746-2260. To register as a Legislative Days delegate, go to www.dklegislativedays.com/register no later than March 1. For more information, go to www.dklegislativedays.com or www.facebook.com/DKLegislativeDay.
