TOWN OF SCOTT- A bar was badly damaged by fire Tuesday evening.

Fire fighters tend to the scene at the Oak Ridge Bar and Grill in the town of Scott, which sustained major fire damage Tuesday night.

The New Franken Fire Department received a call for a grill fire at Oak Ridge Bar & Grill, 4901 Sunset Bluff Drive, at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Fire Chief Kevin Tielens. The business is owned by Tom and Debbie Gerondale.

“When we got there the flames were already coming through the roof,” Tielens said.

The building sustained “a lot of damage,” he said. Most of the roof was burned off. Tielens said it is still being determined whether the building is salvageable and what caused the blaze as of Wednesday afternoon.

New Franken received mutual aid from the Denmark, Luxemburg and Brussels-Union-Gardner fire departments.

About 60,000 gallons of water was used and the scene was cleared around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Though the fire was extinguished by 2:30 a.m., firefighters stayed throughout the night in case it flared back up, Tielens said. The Brown County Fire Investigation team also came to the scene.
