Algoma Utilities doing water maintenance work
Algoma water customers should be prepared as Algoma Utilities conducts water system maintenance work through October.
Hydrant flushing, valve turning and performing routine water main maintenance are important procedures when it comes to a community’s safety. It is necessary to flush the hydrants in order to test that there is adequate water flow and pressure. Flushing is also done to remove any sediment from the pipes in order to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution system.
Maintenance will be performed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. As a result of the pipe flushings, customers may notice discoloration of the water. If this happens, run cold water for a few minutes until the water runs clear. Algoma Utilities said customers should not be alarmed; the water is safe for cooking and consumption.
Customers also are asked to refrain from washing white or light-colored fabrics during the hours of maintenance in their areas, to avoid staining on certain fabrics.
