KEWAUNEE – Baxter and Isabella are getting ready to move into a new home that’s nearly double the size of their current space.

Baxter the bobcat, shown in his former exhibit at Bruemmer Park Zoo in Kewaunee, now has a new space along with his zoo mate, Isabella, that will almost double their previous living space. A party is being held Sunday to celebrate the official opening of the new exhibit.

Baxter and Isabella are the bobcats at Bruemmer Park Zoo, and they’re upgrading because Kewaunee Couty has begun installation of a new bobcat exhibit at the zoo.

The new space for the bobcats will be 48-by-24 feet. Construction is expected to take about two weeks.

The approximate $35,000 cost of the new exhibit is being paid for with donations made directly to the Zoological Society of Kewaunee County and from fundraising events that include Zoobilee and ZoupArt.

An overview of the work on the area for the new bobcat exhibit at Bruemmer Park Zoo iu Kewaunee. The new exhibit will be almost double the size of the previous one.

“The support that the Zoological Society of Kewaunee County receives is tremendous, and it’s nice to see not only Kewaunee County residents but visitors from outside of our community invested in our parks as well,” said Dave Myers, Kewaunee County Promotion and Recreation director.

For safety reasons, the lower portion of the zoo is temporarily closed to the public until construction is completed.
