I’m still trying to catch up on my sleep after spending last weekend at the Wisconsin Women’s State Bowling Tournament in Green Bay.

But as we always do, we did have a good time and mine was in spite of the bowling part.

We bowled singles and doubles on Saturday and the team event Sunday. My bowling was terrible, but I did get lucky and won some money on a raffle, then cashed in on a mystery score that I just happened to hit. So, I came out ahead in the long run.

We had 10 teams from the Kewaunee County and Denmark areas and many of the bowlers stayed overnight Saturday while some drove back and forth. We usually stay two nights, but since it was just in Green Bay, we just stayed Saturday. 

Some of the high scores in doubles and singles included the following: Linda Kobes, with a 137 average, and Vicky Dahlke, with a 129 average both rolled a 179 game.

Rachel Cohen has a 135 average and had a game of 201. Dawn Valenta rolled a 222 game with a 147 average, while Megan Blahnik, with a 130 average, rolled a 175 game.

Brenda Vandemause rolled a 200 game with her 130 average and Pat Fallon rolled a 198 game with a 135 average. In addition, Jenny Paplham picked up the 4-10 split and Ellen Siebold picked the 6-7-10.

In the team event, Sharon Salzseider rolled a 181 game with a 138 average and Jenny Paplham had a 205 high game.

Nice bowling, everyone. And I apologize if I missed anyone’s high scores. A big thank-you to Ellen Siebold for making all the weekend arrangements. We all appreciate your efforts, Ellen. What would we do without you?

► I got an email from a friend the other day with jokes about aging. And since I’m getting up there, I thought some of them were particularly funny.

Did you hear this one? An elderly woman decided to prepare her will and told her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over Walmart.

“Walmart?” the preacher exclaimed. “Why Walmart?”

“Then I’ll be sure my daughters will visit me twice a week,” she answered. 

And then, there’s this one: I felt like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors.

I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour.

But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.
