Ludlow: Come on, Mother Nature, give us a break (and some warm weather)

I'm really trying to be patient with the weather, but that 's running out. As of the weather forecast Tuesday night, it's supposed to reach the 60s by Monday. And that is almost a month later than it usually does. It can't happen soon enough for me. It's the end of April and time for some warm weather.

A lot of the white stuff melted this week. As I'm writing this, most of the grass in my yard is visible, except where the big piles of snow were stacked by the plows. I can finally see my mailbox, though I can't get to it yet. So I've been picking up my mail at the post office since the storm hit.

There is not a lot going on lately, at least that I'm aware of. My life is between the bowling and golf seasons and a lot of time is spent sitting at my desk, looking at the computer. Not real exciting.

► The NFL draft is this week. Who will the Green Bay Packers pick is the question. Will the Pack pick up a future quarterback leader? The team has 14 picks and a lot of needs, so it will be interesting. That will give me a lot more to talk about next week.

► I saw on television today where someone, I think it was in Detroit, was threatening to jump off a bridge that was above a freeway. Well, apparently, truckers were alerted and they slowed and parked their rigs under the bridge with their trailers sticking out. That stopped traffic, and the last I heard, the guy didn't jump.

So, thanks to all the big rig drivers. You did good. It just goes to show that people, and especially truck drivers, care. A lot of people need help with their lives and just don't know how or who to ask.

► I will close with this little story I found on the internet.

For the occasion of her new shop's grand opening, a salon owner ordered a beautiful, expensive floral arrangement. When it arrived, she was miffed that the large announcement card read, “May You Rest in Peace.”

She called the flower shop and complained to the owner, who moaned, “Uh, oh. Now there’s a fancy bouquet at the funeral home with a big sign that says, 'Best of luck in your new location!'”

And with that, have a great week, everyone.
