Kewaunee County holds annual Youth Government Day for select high school students

KEWAUNEE – Twenty-one selected students from Algoma, Kewaunee and Luxemburg-Casco high schools took part in the 54th annual Youth Government Day with Kewaunee County officials on May 2.
The program is designed to teach students about the inner workings of local government and encourage them to become well-informed and active citizens of the community.
The students took an oath of office, then went on tours with elected officials of the Kewaunee County Courthouse, Sheriff's Department, Jail Museum, Administration Center and County Board room.
The officials also gave their responsibilities of office to the students, and the students took part in a mock trial and earned a certificate.
Sponsors of Youth Government Day were American Legion posts and auxiliaries Ernest Haucke Post 236, Algoma; Thibaudeau-Drossart Post 319, Casco; Robinson Post 538, Carlton; Kewaunee Post 29; and Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg.
