New ice skating rink to be created on Dana Farm in Kewaunee County
WEST KEWAUNEE – Ice skating is coming to Dana Farm, a neighbor of Winter Park, which is Kewaunee County’s popular snow tubing, ski and snowboarding park on Ransom Moore Lane in the town of West Kewaunee.
The Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved an offer made by Kewaunee County – Wisconsin Farm Technology Days to donate approximately $40,000 in show profits towards the creation of an ice rink, construction of a warming shelter and the restoration of a historical home on the property.
The cabin that will undergo work was once the childhood home of Ransom Asa Moore, who grew up to be Wisconsin’s father of 4-H and founder of the agronomy department at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“We wanted to make a lasting legacy in the county and have it be something that the community could enjoy,” said Aerica Bjurstrom, Extension Kewaunee County agriculture agent and Kewaunee County – Wisconsin Farm Technology Days executive committee member.
The project has an estimated total budget of $70,000, which includes a county investment of $28,500 that was originally made as a contribution to help fund the state’s largest agricultural show at Ebert Enterprises in July 2017.
Ground is expected to be broken on the Dana Farm project this fall. The Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department will be in charge of prepping the ice rink in winter as well as maintaining it.
Staff will be closely monitoring weather reports for perfect conditions to work on forming an adequate base of ice when temperatures permit. Ice skating will be free, but as of now the public will need to bring their own skates.
“We hope to have the ice rink and warming shelter up and open for the 2019-2020 season at Winter Park, but we can’t make promises as Mother Nature tends to have an agenda of her own,” said Dave Myers, director of the Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department. “We will let the public know when they can come and enjoy this new and exciting addition at Dana Farm.”
