State 42 in Kewaunee County to close for five days for construction

PIERCE – State 42 will be closed from Monday through Friday next week to replace a deteriorating culvert pipe running under the highway, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The five-day closure will be between Eighth and Ninth roads in the town of Pierce, near Wayside Park south of Algoma. Traffic will not be able to cross at the culvert location, but the DOT said access to all properties along that stretch of State 42 will be maintained during the closure.

The designated detour for long-haul trucks will use County D and State 54, although shorter detours for local traffic will be available.

The project will replace a large, drainage way culvert under the highway, including culvert excavation, pavement replacement, pavement marking and installation of new guardrail. The prime contractor for the work is Vinton Construction of Two Rivers.

Road closed

After the road reopens, remaining work on the project is scheduled to continue through Oct. 25. Shoulder and lane closures will be in effect during that time.
