KEWAUNEE – The rate of positive tests for the COVID-19 tests among Kewaunee County residents slowed over the past week.

As of Tuesday, the Kewaunee County Public Health Department reported 31 positive tests, with 512 negative and 67 pending. That's an increase of two cases over the past week, with 29 positives and 355 negatives reported the Tuesday before, May 12. One of the new positive results was reported May 14, with the other coming in over the following weekend.

Test results continue to arrive to the county at a quicker pace, 128 coming between May 12 and 19, compared to 105 and 109 each of the two previous weeks.

With just two positives during that span, the percentage of positive tests was 1.5%, a decrease from 3.6% the week before. The overall percentage of positives since testing began dropped from 7.5% as of May 12 to 5.7%. The statewide cumulative average of positive tests also decreased in that time, from 8.6% to 8%.

Six of the county's positive cases currently are active with two hospitalizations. One death resulted from COVID-19, which happened April 13. Public Health Department director Cindy Kinnard told the County Board on Tuesday night that of the 31 positives so far, three were found in people ages 18 and younger, seven in the 19 to 30 age group, 10 in ages 31 to 49, eight in ages 50 to 65 and three in ages 66 and older.
