Kewaunee County election results: County board, judge, school boards, Algoma fire station

KEWAUNEE COUNTY – Algoma voted out its five-term mayor and returned a past mayor to City Hall while turning down a referendum for a new public safety building as a result of Tuesday's spring elections.
Elsewhere, other incumbents who faced contested races for Kewaunee County school board seats were reelected in all but one case, and the county has its new circuit court judge.
Algoma
Virginia Haske, who served as mayor from 2003 to 2012, ousted Wayne Schmidt, who has served as mayor since 2012 and before that from 1994 to 2002. Haske also represents District 16 on the County Board and was unopposed in her reelection there.
Also, a referendum for a new police/fire/EMS station failed with 62% of voters voting no. City officials say the aging, current fire station is not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the fire department has to order custom-designed engines and other equipment to fit into the building. Had it passed, the referendum would have allowed the city to exceed its state-mandated tax levy limit by no more $250,018 each year for the next 40 years to make debt service payments on the project.
In another race in Algoma, incumbent Casey Buhr beat Eric Dean to represent District 3 on the City Council.
Circuit court judge
Jeffrey Wisnicky defeated Kim Hardtke to become the new county judge. The candidates were running to replace Keith Mehn, who decided to not seek reelection after serving one six-year term before he died of cancer Dec. 25.
Wisnicky has served as Kewaunee County's Corporation Counsel since 2007 and was named the county's human resources director in 2021.
County Board
Dennis Langteau will be the new supervisor for District 4 on the County Board after defeating Nelly DeBaker. They were running to replace Doak Baker, who did not seek reelection.
No one filed nomination papers for District 5 (Village of Luxemburg, Wards 4-5), so a write-in candidate will fill that seat.
School boards
With two seats up for grabs, incumbents Bob Berceau and Linda Jonet were reelected to the Luxemburg-Casco School Board, outpolling challenger Brandi Kollross.
The Algoma School Board also had two seats available, and challenger Christopher Schley and current board President Barb Rodgers won those seats over current board member Joann Wiesner and Shannon Larson.
The unincorporated seat on the Kewaunee School Board had no candidates, so a write-in vote will determine the winner.
Luxemburg
The three village trustees seeking reelection — Daniel Olson, Dan Porath and Lori Hurley — all retained their seats against a challenge from registered write-in candidate Bob Seidl.
