Sport: Football

Kewaunee’s Owen Carlson is off to a great start to the 2023-24 football season. In only three games so far, the running back, listed at 6’0, 200 lbs, has racked up 585 yards on the ground and scored 10 rushing touchdowns.

Who is your all-time favorite NFL running back?

“The Nigerian Nightmare” Christian Okoye

Which is more gratifying to you as a running back: your o-line does everything perfectly and you go untouched into the secondary for a big gain or you have to bust your way through the defensive front, absorbing a lot of contact before making it to the secondary for the same yardage?

Personally, I would love to have my offensive line do everything perfectly but that’s a lot to ask for from the big boys. I love my offensive line. Its not always perfect but I just need a little something to make it work and that’s exactly what they give me time and time  again. I couldn’t ask for a better group of guys up front to control the game for the team and I.

Speaking of those guys, what would you like to say about the job your teammates who play on that line have done so far this year to help you rack up all of these yards?

The whole team in general is a great group of guys that I love to battle with on Friday nights. They always keep me and others accountable for mistakes but also make it known that they are excited for big plays.I have been playing with this group of 15 guys since I was in 5th grade and I wouldn’t wanna play with any other group of seniors. The team as a whole is a great group of guys and I am grateful for everyone.

As a senior now and a big contributor on the field, describe your leadership style.

I am a leader in a couple of different ways. I try to keep people accountable for mistakes but also tell them they are making good plays and such. I would say I lead by example the most. On the field I try to show and teach by what I do. I like my play style and want others to play the same way.

What is your favorite sports movie of all time?

My favorite sports movie is probably The Blind Side.

Do you play any other sports?

I played basketball my freshman year but other than that I have played baseball my entire life.

Tell us one thing about yourself that people might be surprised to know.

I really enjoy golf. I am not the best golfer around town but its always fun to get out on the links on a nice Saturday afternoon.

What are your parents’ names?

My parents’ names are Josh and Chrissy Carlson. I could not ask for better parents when it comes to support and trust. Throughout my years of sports ranging back to when I was four, they have always been my number one supporters. They always knew I would succeed in whatever I put my time and energy into, and I am beyond grateful for them.
