Algoma girls come up just short against Mishicot
MISHICOT – The Algoma High girls basketball team looked like it heading for its first win of the season on Monday, Nov. 27, leading Mishicot 20-15 at halftime, but a sloppy start to the second half of play derailed things and the Indians handed them a 48-40 defeat.
“It was a physical game. We were doing the right things to have success,” said Algoma Head Coach Mark Zastrow. “We did a nice job on them defensively in the first half. In the second, they made some adjustments and got more physical with us in the lane. We had a bad start to the second half but we fought and made them earn it. That’s a team that’s been to state. They have kids on that roster who have played on the Resch Center floor and we were right there against them tonight.”
Algoma had the home team on its heels for the entirety of the first half but a flurry of turnovers to start the second proved to be too much for the Wolves to overcome.
Jadyn Nellis turned in 11 points to lead Algoma, followed closely by 10 from Sierra Slaby. Rylee Zimmerman and Therese Gerdman each scored seven.
