CLINTONVILLE – Luxemburg-Casco breezed to its second-straight victory on Monday, Jan. 22, using a smothering brand of defense to contain the Truckers for a 62-36 final score.
”We made it a point to have gap help and backside help, otherwise, we were going to be done for. (Clintonville) has a good inside game,” said L-C head coach Beth Budnik after the game. “Our press was good, we got up in people’s faces on defense. We made it a point, our defense was our offense. But we still need to work on our halfcourt game on offense. Defense will only take us so far.”
The Spartans gave up a three-pointer on the game’s opening possession but L-C’s Sienna Blohowiak answered with a two at the other end before Brianna Bray drained a three a couple of possessions later to put the Spartans up 7-3.
That four-point deficit would be as close as the Truckers would get to the lead for the rest of the game as the Spartans finished the half in the lead 27-17.
Bray finished with 14 points, as did Alana Mrotek, to lead the L-C offense, followed by nine from Blohowiak and seven apiece from Maggie Deebaker and Alayna Deprez.
