LUXEMBURG – The 109th Kewaunee County Fair has officially returned to Luxemburg, offering a vibrant showcase of agricultural heritage and local entertainment. This year’s festivities include a diverse range of events, from the whimsical Tallest Weed Contest and high-energy tractor pulls to a full schedule of live music and traditional livestock showings.
A fair favorite, the Tallest Weed Contest, is set for Saturday, July 11. Registration opens at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds, with entries accepted until noon. Participants can enter weeds into three distinct categories: Tall, Thin, and Invasive; Icky, Sticky, and Picky (which requires gloves for measurement); and the unique “I am a Category of My Own.”
While woody and poisonous plants are strictly prohibited, all other entries will be donated for public display. The stakes are high for local gardeners, with adult winners vying for the $100 Black Thumb Trophy, while children compete for $50 first-place prizes in each division.
Evening entertainment and main stage highlights
Music enthusiasts can look forward to a dynamic lineup at the Van’s Lumber Stage. The afternoon kicks off at 4 p.m. with Tailgate County, a high-energy country cover band known for engaging local crowds. The evening will culminate with a 9 p.m. performance by LANCO, a group that blends country, rock, pop, and folk into a signature sound.
Mechanical power remains a cornerstone of the fair experience. The annual Luxemburg Motor Co. Farm Tractor Pull is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kewaunee County Fair Grandstand. This long-standing tradition highlights the region’s agricultural roots through a display of driving skill and machinery.
Sunday, July 12, features the Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce Fair Parade, themed “There’s Magic in the Fair.” Beginning at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, the route winds through Main Street and surrounding blocks, concluding near the fairgrounds by 1 p.m. Local authorities advise attendees to arrive early as Main Street will be closed to traffic.
Entertainer Jason Kollum, a juggler, stilt-walker and balloon-twister, will roam the fairgrounds from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, providing nonstop entertainment for fair-goers. The day will also include two comedy shows, each on the Family Stage, starting at 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
Future farmers will also have their moment during the Luxemburg-Casco FFA Alumni Kiddie Showmanship event at 2 p.m. The weekend concludes with a final musical performance by local favorites Spice, taking the Van’s Lumber Stage from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
