Serving Algoma, Casco, Kewaunee, Luxemburg and all of Kewaunee County

A Groundhog Day storm

Posted

Four to six inches of snow fell across Kewaunee County on Feb. 2, creating treacherous roads during the Tuesday afternoon commute.

The dark skies against a field along Carnot Road north of Algoma last week provided no sun for a groundhog to see his shadow – predicting an early spring if you believe the Groundhog Day tale.

Most schools and some businesses were closed Tuesday and back to normal on Wednesday, although streets and roads remained slippery. The Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department reported five minor accidents due to snow-covered roads.

By Wednesday afternoon, the sun was again trying to poke through overcast clouds.
