A Salute to Our Veterans: Algoma School District to host veterans’ program

Posted

ALGOMA – The Algoma School District is proud to announce its annual Veterans Program, a deeply rooted community tradition designed to honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans. This year’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The program will begin with a gesture of gratitude for those who served. A complimentary breakfast will be served for all veterans and their spouses, providing an opportunity for fellowship and appreciation before the main ceremony. To ensure adequate catering, all veterans and their spouses planning to attend the breakfast are asked to RSVP to 920-487-7001, extension 2302, by the end of the day on Sunday, Nov. 9.

The formal program is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. and will take place in the Algoma High School gymnasium. The core of the event is a tribute organized and performed primarily by the students of the district.

The ceremony will open with the presentation of colors by a local Honor Guard. Continuing a school tradition, the district’s second-grade class will collectively recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Students from various grade levels will perform several pieces. The program will feature a rendition of the National Anthem, followed by a medley of the Marches of the Armed Forces, where veterans are encouraged to stand when their service branch’s song is played.

Beyond the formal presentations, students will contribute readings, poems and other expressions of thanks, emphasizing the importance of service and civic duty.

This program has been a consistent community tradition for many years, serving as a vital link between the school, local veterans and the broader Algoma area. Students have been diligently practicing their roles and performances since mid-September. Band Director and Program Coordinator Jennifer Massey said the long preparation period ensures students fully understand the historical and personal significance of the day.

The ultimate goal of the Algoma School District in hosting this annual event is to actively involve the entire community — especially the younger generation — in the act of honoring veterans and learning about the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy. All community members are encouraged to attend this public ceremony to show their support and gratitude.
