A White New Year

Posted

Although the snow didn't arrive for Christmas, Kewaunee County had a White New Year.  Residents were digging out after a snowstorm Monday and Tuesday left more than a foot of snow in some places.

Many people couldn't get to their work place and the roads were slippery and dangerous.  Snow was piled up nearly to second-story windows by plows as the streets were cleared in downtown Kewaunee, while snow "hills" lined the streets of Algoma.

As the snow stopped Tuesday, neighbors greeted each other as they came outside to shovel sidewalks and driveways. Winter had come to Kewaunee . . . although a little later than usual.

Tyler Slack, owner of Kewaunee Bowl, uses his ATV to clear parking spaces in front of his downtown Kewaunee building.

Stanley Johnson puts the finishing touches on his driveway on First Street.

Connor Nienhuis helps shovel his grandmother's driveway in Kewaunee on Tuesday.

Steele Street in Algoma bustled with activity Tuesday morning after the big snowstorm.

Snow is piled high in downtown Algoma Tuesday morning.
