Algoma Chamber announces Business Industry and Education Award winners

ALGOMA - The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of its annual Algoma Chamber Business Industry and Education Awards during a banquet attended by more than 80 people April 30 at the historic Hotel Stebbins.

Mahlon Dier celebrated his 70th year of attending Algoma Chamber banquets as the business he started with the LeBotte family, Forestville Builders, was honored with the Family Award for 60 years of quality residential and commercial cabinetry. Dier served as chamber secretary for many years and was a leader in establishing the Friendly Algoma Guidebook and sportfishing industry beginning in the 1960s.

Other winners were:

Business Award: Ebert Enterprises for hosting the successful Wisconsin Farm Technology Days and continuing its leadership in the dairy industry and community, including Concerts in the Park, Shanty Days 5K, and donations of milk and cheese curds to the Shanty Days Firemen’s breakfast.

Industry Award: Ahnapee Brewery, for leadership and quality production of goods within one’s industry under head brewmaster Nick Calaway.

Education: Lori Everard, Steve Jerabek, Paul Kay, and Tim Schmidt, custodians at Algoma High School, for their ongoing dedication to the cleanliness, functionality and safety of the school.

Aesthetic: John and Debbie Kiedrowski of hotel interior specialist CTI Hospitality for the remodeling work to their building at 507 Navarino St. While the award was given for the outside remodeling project, the Kiedrowskis also are finishing an interior remodel to be revealed in a few months.

Rose Awards: Algoma Pizza Bowl, BellaLuna’s Apothecary, The Book Corner, Contract Sales and Operations, and Fifth Steele Place to acknowledge the hard work, money and energy they spent on their storefronts to bring beauty and new life to their buildings.
