ALGOMA – On Oct. 23, the Algoma Fire Department held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Fire and Rescue Station, to be located at 1515 Sunset Ave.
This new building will replace the current, roughly 75 year old building on 3rd St.
The planning process for this new facility started about 5 years ago. Over that time, voters had rejected two referendum questions.
Bayland Buildings is the general contractor for the project, which will be a 19,100 square foot building. The project is estimated to cost $3.9 million with construction expected to be complete in spring of 2026. The project is being paid for from proceed from the Oct. 2024 general obligation debt issuance, interest from those proceeds, a $200,000 donation from Terrance Fulwiler and capital projects fund reserves.
As the Fire and Rescue Department has grown over time, the space provided at the existing building couldn’t keep up. The new facility will provide the much needed space and offer modern features to better serve the department and the community.
