Algoma High School to host regional DI tournament

Posted

ALGOMA – Over 50 teams from all over Northeast Wisconsin will converge at the Algoma High School on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the 2025 Northeast Regional Destination Imagination (DI) Tournament.

Students ages 5 to 18 participate in the Destination Imagination Challenge Experience which includes six competitive Team Challenges rooted in STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — concepts.

Students form teams of two to seven members, select their preferred Challenge, and work together to develop their Challenge solution. Teams have been working on their Challenge for months leading up to the tournament.

In addition to the Team Challenge, teams also complete Instant Challenges (IC), which require students to think under pressure to present a solution on the spot.

Team Challenge solutions are presented in front of live audiences, while Instant Challenges are presented confidentially.

Both Team Challenge and Instant Challenge solutions are assessed by trained volunteer appraisers.

Scores for these components determine advancement to the next level of the tournament.

Teams will qualify to compete against teams from all four Wisconsin regions at the Wisconsin Affiliate (state-level) tournament by placing in the top three of their Challenge (the top four in the Scientific Challenge).

The Wisconsin Affiliate tournament is scheduled for April 5 in Sun Prairie.

Teams that advance past the Affiliate tournament will be invited to compete at Global Finals, the international tournament, in Kansas City, Mo., in May.

For the Northeast Regional Tournament, competitions begin at 9 a.m.
Competition schedules, directions, and maps are available on the Wisconsin Destination Imagination website wisconsindi.org/widi-regions/widi-regions-ne.
