Algoma prevails in volleyball's 'War on the Shore'

Kewaunee traveled to Algoma Tuesday for a five-game volleyball thriller with Algoma prevailing in volleyball's "War on the Shore."

With the teams tied with two wins each after four games, 25-12, 25-23, 25-27, 19-25, Algoma defeated Kewaunee 15-10 in the final game.

"We ran short on the last game and dug a hole and couldn't get out of it," said Storm head coach Brain Van De Plas.

Wolves head coach Cindy Koss said that the team played hard.

"We dealt with some momentum swings and had to bring it back, but the girls did well," Koss said. "Once I saw the girls smiling again, I knew we were getting back to playing our type of ball."

The Wolves' Anna Dier had 25 kills, six blocks and 14 digs. Peyton Prokash had 20 assists, Alli Spitzer had 13 assists and four aces, Jordan Dossie and 20 digs, Makayla Guilette had 11 kills, Mikayla Haack had 15 digs and Katelyn Williams had eight kills.

For the Storm, Emmy Kornowski had 10 kills, eight digs and 11 blocks. Ellie Olsen had 29 digs. Shea Charmichael and Haylie Novak combined for 37 assists, 24 digs and two aces.

Luxemburg-Casco 3, Wrightstown 2

Megan Cannon totaled 29 assists and eight digs to help Luxemburg-Casco beat Wrightstown 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 on Tuesday in a battle of unbeaten teams in the North Eastern Conference.

Alexis Dorner added nine kills and five blocks; Olivia posted 12 kills and Allie Byrne made 17 digs in the sweep for L-C (21-13-2, 7-0).

Brielle Buechler recorded 20 digs and one ace to lead the Tigers (24-11, 6-1). Carlie Servais added seven kills and two aces.

Luxemburg-Casco 3, Little Chute 2

Megan Cannon totaled 56 assists, 13 digs and three blocks to lead Luxemburg-Casco to a 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, 15-25, 15-5 victory over Little Chute in a home North Eastern Conference match on Oct. 1.

Haley Yagodinski added 20 kills and eight blocks for the Spartans (20-13-2, 6-0). Alexis Dorner had 13 kills and three blocks, while Allie Byrne posted 36 digs and two aces in the victory.
