Algoma police asked the public's help in locating a woman who attempted to remove a child from Algoma Elementary School on Tuesday but Thursday morning announced the incident was a misunderstanding.
"More information has been uncovered in this case and it has been found to be a misunderstanding," the Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department said. "The person of interest has been identified and cooperated with officials fully. An updated press release will follow later today."
According to the original police statement, the woman entered the Algoma Elementary School around 3 p.m. asking for a student by name. The woman identified herself as a distant relative.
The student did not leave with the unknown person and was picked up by her mother.
