ALGOMA - Sculptor Bren Sibilsky was chosen to judge the Sculpture Award for a second straight year in this year's HerStory online exhibit hosted by Manhattan Arts International.
Sibilsky will select a sculptor to be promoted extensively on social media by Manhattan Arts and featured in a press release that will be widely distributed. She gave the 2017 Best of Sculpture award to Kristina Kossi for her "Magdalena" and awarded awarded Loren Batt a newly created Cross Over Award for her multimedia piece “Listen To Me.”
HerStory 2018 is an online exhibition of women artists that will run from June 15 to Aug. 15 at www.manhattanarts.com. It will feature the artwork of more than 50 female artists from around the world. Selected artworks from the exhibition will be included in a video and shared on social media and on the Manhattan Arts International YouTube channel.
“For centuries, women artists have inspired, enlightened and informed us with their enormous talent, vision and commitment. Many have served as creative trailblazers. Unfortunately, their contributions have gone under-recognized," Manhattan Arts founder Renee Phillips said. "The purpose of this exhibition is to provide a venue for outstanding women artists who have been ignored by the mainstream art world.”
Manhattan Arts seeks to promote artistic excellence with a focus on promoting under-recognized artists and increasing traffic to their websites. Visitors to Manhattan Arts' website are invited to view the artists’ artwork, read about them, visit their websites and contact them directly to exhibit and purchase their work.
Sibilsky is an award-winning sculptor, art instructor and founder of Algoma Atelier of Sculpture and Art. She has won top awards in several Manhattan Arts International juried competitions, including a top award in HerStory 2015. Sibilsky has exhibited with the prestigious National Sculpture Society and Salmagundi Art Club, both in New York, and has collectors worldwide.
“I am looking for a dynamic and creative sculpture that evokes clarity and the HerStory theme," Sibilsky said. "I am very honored to have this opportunity to select an award for a woman sculptor in the HerStory 2018 exhibit. I believe this is the perfect time in history to celebrate the sculptural genius of women. Now, more than ever, we are seeing some super-talented women in sculpture, a career once only open to men. I know how important it is for an artist to get their work seen by a large audience and from my own experience, this show has that ability ... I encourage women to express their artistic voices through this exhibit, which gives them a great platform to be seen and heard."
