An era gone by

“Reliving old memories of an era gone by, through the sights and sounds of farming from the years past. Preserving our heritage for future generations” is the mission statement that reflects why Luke Michalski started the Casco Thresheree.

Now in its third year, the annual thresheree works toward “Preserving our heritage,” by featuring demonstrations using old farm implements and other old equipment. 

This year’s event will take place Aug. 25-27, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., at N6149 Crevice Rd., Casco.

“We will be having horse drawn demonstrations with the Amish coming on Saturday, 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. They will be doing fieldwork with their teams of horses and using horse-drawn equipment from local farmers and the Frontier Farmers Association of America club,” said Tracey Anderson, who assists Michalski with planning.

“Our other demonstrations that will be going on Saturday and Sunday will be threshing oats, blacksmithing, possibly a sawmill ran by a steam engine and more.”

“This year we will be featuring Allis-Chalmers tractors. We have an antique tractor show, which many locals bring their favorite tractor or 2, to show off. 

“We also have parking for classic cars, like a car show.  

“On Sunday, there is an antique tractor pull at 10 a.m.”

The event also hosts a small flea market and food for purchase.

“This is a fun-filled weekend for the young to see how things were done ‘back in the day,’ and for the old to reminisce back to their younger days.”
