Anchored by some multi-event stars, the girls track and field teams from Kewaunee and Luxemburg-Casco placed second in their respective regionals Friday at Hilbert and Little Chute.
In Div. 2, the Spartan girls were second behind host Little Chute, 133-116.50, while the L-C boys (101) trailed Little Chute (139) and Notre Dame (133).
In Div. 3, the Storm girls were only eight points behind champion Mishicot (136.5-128.5), while the Kewaunee boys finished fourth.
Algoma advanced four individuals in D-3. Junior Estella Marrero won the girls pole vault, clearing 10 feet for the first time, while sophomore Ethan Melotte was second in shot put with a personal record throw of 48-10. Junior Cooper Fay placed second in boys pole vault and senior Lane Cochart fourth in discus.
L-C athletes that advanced compete Friday in a Div. 2 sectional at Chilton, while Kewaunee and Algoma are back at Hilbert for the Div. 3 sectional. The State Tournament will be held June 5-6 in LaCrosse.
Luxemburg-Casco junior Sienna Blohowiak qualified with a trio of third-place finishes in the 100 (13.19), 400 (1:03.02) and as part of the 4x400 team with junior Ellison Bosman and freshmen Adeline Treml and Ali Jansen (4:25.76).
Jansen and fellow freshman Ana Wolfert also qualified in three events. Jansen placed second in both the 300 hurdles (52.77) and high jump (4’ 11”), while Wolfert won the long jump (17’ 0.75”) and placed second in both the triple jump (34’ 4.75”) and 100 hurdles (16.45), all personal bests. Junior teammate Rachel Gregorich was fourth in the triple jump.
Junior Claire DuChateau won the 3200-meter run in 11:32.88, and was second in the 1600 (5:19.60).
Two other relay teams qualified with fourth-place finishes: the 4x200 with sophomore Aylah Kornowski and juniors Cecelia Peot, Josie Monfils and Lauren Van Ess, and the 4x800 with senior Emily Tassoul, sophomores Greta Annoye and Madison Frank, and Treml.
On the boys side, senior Mason Trimburger moves on in three events after placing second in both the 110 (15.88) and 300 hurdles (39.83, a personal best). Sophomore Levi Kinnard placed third in the 300 hurdles, and joined Trimburger and fellow seniors Brady Kinnard and Jonathon Salentine in winning the 4x400 relay in 3:29.72. Kinnard added a second in the 400-meter run (50.45, a new PB).
Sophomore Ezra Treml won the 3200, flying in a new personal best of 10:01.20. Teammates Derek Christoph (senior) and Zach Tassoul (sophomore) placed third and fourth, respectively. Treml was third in the 1600 (4:42.10) and Tassoul fourth (4:47.44, a PB).
Senior Kory Jansen and juniors Aaron Demeny, Lane Ledvina and Brenden Deering placed fourth in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:36.82.
Finally, sophomore Drake Wolf qualified for sectionals by placing fourth in the triple jump, 41 feet, 9.25 inches.
Kewaunee star senior Hannah Miller won the 800 (2:18.49) and 1600 (5:12.18), was part of the winning 4x400 relay team (4:08.02) and placed second in the triple jump. She teamed up with sophomores Natalie Miller and Kaylyn Martin and junior Noelie El Kout on the blistering relay run.
El Kout was second in the 800 and part of the second-place 4x800 relay team that also included Martin, sophomore Milli Paul and junior Alison Szydel. Martin also qualified in the 800, finishing fourth.
Senior Chyanne Robinson set a new personal record in the shot put (34’ 7.25”), finishing second in both the shot and discus. She was also part of the second-place 4x100 team that also consisted of sophomore Peyton Pagel and freshmen Alison Kuehl and Penelope Gerold (new PR of 52.88).
Kuehl added a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles, Natalie Miller a PR and second-place pole vault of 9 feet, 9 inches, and Emma Barta a new PR and fourth place in discus at 101 feet, six inches.
On the boys side, senior Mitchell Boeder and junior Garrett Lefevre were 1-2 in the discus. Getting thirds were Boeder in the shot put and the 1600 relay team of juniors Joey Schlies and Gage Vlies and seniors Tristan Kjelgaard and Trevor Gauthier with a PR of 3:43.32.
In fourth place, all with new personal records, were Schlies in the 800 (2:08.50), junior Gregorio Medina in shot put (46-03), Seth Chevalier in pole vault (10-9) and the 400 relay team of Kjelgaard, sophomore Brayden Meyers, junior Blake Bortolini and Gauthier (47.17).
