Algoma High School students will perform in "Band Geeks," a musical, at the Algoma Performing Arts Center, 514 Fremont St., Algoma, this Thursday and Saturday.
The musical tells the story of the Cuyahoga High Marching Beavers, a high school band with only nine members and close to extinction. When a troubled athlete is relegated to their ranks, tuba-playing band captain Elliott and his best friend, Laura, must find a way to unite the band, embrace their "inner geek" and save the Marching Beavers. The musical has been called "a high-stepping tribute to high school marching bands and misfits everywhere."
Elliott is played by Quinn Senendael and Laura is played by Chloe Bair.
"This musical just fit our students to a T," said Melissa Scheck, drama director. She said 62 students were in the cast.
"Algoma does 'funny' well," she said. "It goes over better than drama – and this musical is funny."
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors. The performing arts center is located in the Algoma Elementary School.
