ALGOMA – Algoma became an official Ice Age Trail Community in August 2024. The Algoma segment runs from the Forestville Trailhead on County M to the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce building via portions of Perry St, 6th St, Navarino St, 4th St., Steele St. and the Crescent Beach Boardwalk.
Each October, the Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA) invites hikers, runners and outdoor lovers of all kinds to participate in the Mammoth Hike Challenge. In 2025, participants will pledge to hike 45 miles and visit three Trail Communities across Wisconsin during the month of October.
Whether exploring scenic fall trails, supporting local businesses or connecting with nature, this challenge promotes wellness, tourism and appreciation for Wisconsin’s unique Ice Age Trail system.
Trail Magic is the unexpected kindness hikers find along their journey. During the Mammoth Hike Challenge, Trail Magic stops are stores, community-supported locations or pop-up stands offering hospitality — think snacks, water, maps, a special sale or discount or even encouraging signs.
Hikers get bonus miles when they participate in official trail events and visit a Trail Magic stop.
