ALGOMA - A bicyclist was killed Tuesday morning when he was hit by a truck while both were traveling eastbound on Wisconsin 54 approximately 500 feet east of County D in the town of Ahnapee.
The victim was identified as Andrew Nowak, 49, of Casco. The 2004 GMC pickup truck was driven by Bryer A. Benet, 20, of Luxemburg.
At approximately. 5:28 a.m. the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department along with Algoma Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.
"This is an unfortunate tragedy," said Sheriff Matt Joski. "It appears that there was vision obstruction due to the sun rising."
Joski said that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident, although it remains under investigation by the Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Team.
Nowak was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wisconsin 54 from County D to Evergreen Road was closed for several hours Tuesday morning and traffic was diverted to county highways D and K, Joski said. The highway was reopened at 9:40 a.m., Joski said..
