ALGOMA – In an effort to encourage transparency, the Algoma City Council will beginning hosting a city chat room.
“I want to start a city chat room — a real chat room, in person,” Algoma Mayor Steve Lautenbach said during the Jan. 6 council meeting. “It is open to anybody who can come.”
“It is more because of the people who think that we are maybe not as transparent as we could be. There is a lot going on…hopefully, we can get the communication thing going.
“It’s not a meeting; we don’t all have to show up at the same time. You can come at 2 p.m., at 3 p.m., at 4 p.m. If they all ask the same question, we will answer it five times. Just to try to get some communication going in a neutral place, which is why we picked the youth center. Maybe it will change — maybe the players will change, maybe the times will change.”
The first chat room will be held Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the youth center at 620 Lake St., Algoma.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3, at the city hall council chambers at 416 Fremont St., Algoma.
