Kewaunee County’s boys and girls track and field teams are putting in the work as the post-season nears.
Regionals are in two and a half weeks, sectionals in three weeks and the state meet in LaCrosse is four weekends away.
The Kewaunee girls flexed their muscles at the Thursday’s Oconto Falls Invitational, taking the top spot. Hannah Miller won the 800 (2:23.79), 1600 (5:15.87) and triple jump (33’6.5”), and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team (4:17.72), along with Noelie El Kout, Kaylyn Martin and Natalie Miller. Natalie also won the pole vault (9’) and placed second in the long jump (15’ 3.5”). Alison Kuehl won the 100 hurdles in 18.22, and El Kout was second in the 400 (1:04.23).
Mitchell Boeder placed second with personal bests in both the shot (50’ 5”) and discus (161’ 2”). Joseph Schlies was second in the 800 (2:13.51), and part of the second place 4x800 and third place 4x400 teams.
Algoma pole vaulters Estella Marrero (9’) and Cooper Fay (11’ 6”) both placed second in their respective divisions at Falls.
Two days earlier, Kewaunee’s boys and girls teams both placed second at a meet in Algoma. Peshtigo was first, while the host Wolves were third on the boys’ side and fourth on the girls’.
Algoma’s Jacob Blahnik set a personal best in the 400 with a time of 55.07, good for second place. He also finished second in the 200 (24.78), a tenth of a second ahead of teammate Cooper Fay. Fay won the pole vault (12’) and was part of the winning 4x100 relay with Jack Meverden, Joey Cabino and Luis Huerta (48.35). Cabino, Meverden, Lane Cochart and James Solchenberger won the 4x200 in 1:41.92.
Boeder won the discus and placed second in the shot put, and teammate Trevor Gauthier won the long jump and was part of the winning 4x800 team (Gage Vlies, Robin Kunesh, Schlies). Jaylon Mason won the 3200 and the Storm’s Brex Witcpalek and the Wolves’ Aiden Moen tied in the 110 hurdles at 19.17. Witcpalek won the 300 in 46.14.
Algoma freshman Calvin Mayheu won the high jump with a season’s best 5’ 6,” and Schlies finished runner-up in the triple jump. Marrero won the 100-meter run and tied Natalie Miller at nine feet in the pole vault. Miller won the long jump.
Hannah Miller won the 800 in 2:15.40, and the Storm’s 4x100 and 4x200 teams each placed first. Peyton Pagel and Penelope Gerold were on both teams. Chyanne Robinson and Addison Kudick were on the 4x100, and Alison Kuehl and Kamber Tulachka on the 4x200.
Meanwhile, the Luxemburg-Casco boys placed first and the Spartans’ girls second in a home invitational Thursday.
Ezra Treml tripled up, winning the 800 (2:12.63), 1600 (4:40.86) and 3200 (10:20.57) runs. Claire DuChateau won the 1600 (5:28.11) and 3200 (11:38.98) for the girls.
Brady Kinnard (52.86) and Sienna Blohowiak (1:02.79) won their respective 400-meter runs, and Levi Kinnard won the 300 hurdles (44.26) and was part of the winning 4x400 relay team with Brenden Deering, Lane Ledvina and Jonathan Salentine (3:39.37).
