Rosiere: We hope everyone has a happy, safe kermiss and hope the tour of Belgium leaving on Sept. 13 will be the most enjoyable ever.
Algoma: Cozzie’s once again won the baseball league title after winning for the last three seasons. The team added the Forestville tournament championship by downing Miller’s Bar, 8-1. Cozzie’s is king!
Kewaunee: The Kewaunee High School football team scored touchdowns in the last 18 seconds of one half and 11 seconds of the other to defeat the Southern Door Eagles last week by a score of 20-0. The other touchdown came about because of a roughing-the-kicker penalty.
Luxemburg: Evening grandstand performances at the county fair include Leo Carillo, aka Pancho of the TV series "The Cisco Kid," and the Menominee dancers. The showmen are a genuine hit and do not disappoint those who turn out.
Algoma: A special City Council meeting has been called to open hearings on the controversial parking meter subject. The council voted to install meters on a one-year trial basis, but that decision set off something of a furor. Opponents are circulating petitions.
Kewaunee: Jerome Reinke received a delayed Bronze Star for which he was recommended on Aug. 1, 1944. Reinke lost his left leg and suffered injuries to his right arm and leg in fire action in France. By order of the Secretary of the Army, Reinke was recognized for exemplary combat against a ground enemy.
Pierce: Music by the Satellites and free beer were part of the 20th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Stichman at the Grove.
Brookside: Ed Hunsader sold his cheese factory to Milford Everson of Oshkosh, and Joseph Euclide, also of Pierce, bought Fred Nell’s farm in the Town of Ahnapee. Realtor R.C. Bach announced the sales.
Rostok: Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Geier observed their Golden Wedding with an appropriate celebration Saturday. An open house was conducted in the evening.
Casco: The Ahnapee & Western and Green Bay and Western Railroad is busy remodeling its depot this week, cutting it into two sections. Emil Naze bought the western section for a garage.
Algoma: The city observed a gasoline-less Sunday without flagrant violations. The order was inconvenient, but it saved between 500 and 1,000 gallons for the effort for World War I.
Rio Creek: Neighbors were aroused by the fire alarm late Saturday evening. Jos. Strand’s barn was on fire. Steve Koss, who was renting it, lost considerable hay. It is believed a spark from a threshing machine earlier in the day caused the terrible loss.
Bolt: Mrs. Paul Herman, Miss Viola Nelson and Clarence Knudsen have spent several weeks in the neighborhood visiting relatives. Mrs. Herman returned to her Chicago home while Miss Nelson and Mr. Knudsen returned to Milwaukee.
Rosiere: There was a quiet gathering at the kermiss last week due to the fact that our country is not at peace and many of our boys are on the battlefields or in training camps.
Carlton: Representatives of the town met at Folk’s Hall to help draft registrants properly execute their questionnaires. Frank Draeb is chairman with George W. Wing serving as attorney. Others included J.M. Wishka and Ed Bruschert.
Town of Ahnapee: Invitations are out announcing the marriage of James Richmond and Anna Barrand, both of this town. The happy event will take place Aug. 30 at St. Agnes by the Lake Episcopal Church. An evening reception will be held at the residence of the bride’s parents following the ceremony.
Kewaunee: V. Mashek was in the company of Lt. Gov. Charles Jonas, of Racine, last Saturday.
Casco: Dr. Hipke, who has been ill with typhoid fever for a week past, is now, we are pleased to report, much better and will within a few days be able to attend to his large practice.
Carlton: Grun & Hlawachek are the successors to Conway Brothers. They sell Marsk reapers, Gorham and Prairie City seeders, J.I. Case & Co. threshers and all kinds of farming implements. Branch offices are in Carlton and Manitowoc. The warehouse office is in Ahnapee.
Kewaunee: Joseph Walender calls attention to the fact that he is a general dealer in dry goods, groceries and provisions, Yankee notions, farm implements, crockery, hardware, books and everything else in his first-rate retail store. All is sold at the lowest figures.
Countywide: Col. C.D. Elliott, well known to many, was chairman of the Republican Convention in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, which nominated Howell Fisher for Congress.
