Kewaunee County Board Chairman Robert Weidner and Administrator Scott Feldt issued an emergency order Wednesday allowing meetings of the county board and its committees to be temporarily held by phone or audiovisual conference.
The order applies to all county government meetings subject to the state's open records laws. It was enacted in response to advice to limit group gatherings and maintain social distancing during the ongoing coronavirus crisis spreading across Wisconsin and the nation.
The public will be able to listen in or view meetings held in this manner. Meeting notices and agendas, which are published on the county website, kewauneeco.org, will provide instructions for the public to get access by phone or video. Meetings also may be broadcast live on the internet if possible, according to the order. However, the chair of a meeting may suspend its public comment portion unless it's required by law for that meeting, such as a public hearing.
