Registrations are being taken for the first-ever Great Kewaunee County Holiday Light Contest, for which the public can vote online.
The contest is co-sponsored by the Algoma, Kewaunee and Luxemburg area chambers of commerce as "a fun, family-focused event to encourage residents and visitors to travel down new roads, marvel at other’s creativity and show out-of-town folks the pride we have in our communities," according to the Algoma chamber's website.
Categories are Best Residential Retro Themed (anything pre-cell phone days can be considered "retro"), Best Business Retro Themed, Best Residential Classic Themed (for the more traditional lights), Best Business Classic Themed, Best NonProfit, and Best Griswold (in honor of the, um, spectacular lighting seen in the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.")
Registrations will be taken until 2 p;m. Dec. 7, and decorations must be up by 5 p.m. Dec. 8. Properties entering the contest must be located in Kewaunee County.
The online poll will be up from 5 p.m. Dec. 8 through 10 p.m. Dec. 16 at the chambers' websites and maps of the registered contestants will be available there and at gas stations and convenience stores in the county.
To enter, go to algomachamber.org/lights, www.kewaunee.org/county-lights or luxemburgchamber.com/contest.
