Explosives seized, man held in Ahnapee raid

Posted

The Kewaunee County Sheriff's Department was holding James R. Gigstead, 37, in the Kewaunee County Jail after a search by the Brown-Outagamie County Bomb Squad found five explosive items at a residence at E5919 Wisconsin 54 in the town of Ahnapee.

Sheriff Matt Joski said that the bomb squad along with deputies from the Kewaunee, Door and Brown county sheriff's departments obtained a search warrant after anonymous tips indicated suspicious activity at the 11-acre property that includes a brown ranch house, several machine shops, salvage cars and several other outbuildings.

The bomb squad seized the items and is currently analyzing them.   Gigstead had been found guilty of manufacturing and delivering cannabis in 2013.   Joski said Gigstead was arrested on a probation hold and no charges have yet been filed in connection with Tuesday's raid.
