Duvall: Sr. Gerald LuMaye celebrated her silver jubilee as a Sister of St. Francis with a mass of thanksgiving followed by a reception at Curly’s Countryaire. She is the former Angela LuMaye.
Kewaunee: The city is the site for the first Mixed Guys and Gals Slow Pitch Softball Tournament set for Aug. 17-20. Rules for the mixed tourney call for at least five girls on the field at all times.
Algoma: Fireside of Algoma meets Marchant Red Owl in the Women’s Softball Tournament at Forestville. Hotel Stebbins tangles with Apple Valley Lanes, Dummans squares off against First National Bank, and Bank of Luxemburg is up against Sand Bay Resort.
Kodan: Roland Holub was re-elected director at the Kodan School district meeting. Anton Steiner, Don Barta and Frank Paul were elected auditors.
Montpelier: The Luxemburg fairgrounds was the site of the Kratz family reunion. Dinner, supper and refreshments were served cafeteria-style. Social conversation and cards were the diversions of the day.
Algoma: Since 1954, when Algoma Transit was formed to handle freight for Plumbers Woodwork, Karl Serrahn and Harlie Ebert traveled over a half-million miles without an accident. Serrahn logged over 310,000 of those miles.
Alaska: Pfc. Richard Schunke left by plane for Seattle, Washington, and from there overseas. He spent a 10-day leave with his parents and relatives.
Dyckesville: Red River Park was the spot chosen for the Cayemburg family reunion. Mrs. Eli Cayemburg of Tonet met with 67 members of her family at the yearly reunion.
Kewaunee: Another of the Triple-A broadcasts will be heard over radio station WOMT on Wednesday. Agnes Nickolai of Red River will appear on the program with her piano accordion, and county field woman Mrs. Irene Teske will discuss what Red River farmers are doing about food production to help win the war.
Algoma: A freak accident occurred on State 42 north of Algoma when Carl Braun was returning to the Braun farm with Ed Paape’s cultivator fastened to his car. A second car hit the cultivator, which swung loose into the path of a third car. The accident involved three automobiles and one two-horse cultivator, all extensively damaged. None of the occupants was hurt, however.
Boloslav: Joe Stangel is confined to his bed due to a bruised hip, he being an unfortunate man at the raising of Honora Dhuey’s barn at Lincoln.
Ryan: Leo Seiler is engaged hauling cement for the new silo being erected on his farm by Fred Steubs and crew.
Casco: Luxemburg tinsmith Steve Liebel was in the village attending to some work at the Casco Cheese factory and also on the premises of Jos. H. Koss.
Kewaunee: There is money to loan on farm mortgages at current interest with terms to suit. Apply to G.B. Byron, Attorney.
Ahnapee: A horse team owned by Frank Stenart of Casco became frightened by a safety bicycle. One horse ran at a furious gait up Fourth to the corner of Fremont when it was brought up against a shade tree and stopped, upsetting the wagon. The occupants were thrown out and escaped harm, except for a little girl seriously bruised. The wagon was badly broken but the horse escaped injury.
Casco: Michael McCosky’s barn was struck by lightning but the barn was not badly damaged. However, one sheep was killed by the bolt. Home Insurance Co. said the loss was $75.
Kewaunee: Potato bugs were never before so numerous, and relentless war is being waged upon them.
Krok: William Martin’s horse was sunstruck hauling logs to Dikeman’s mill last Tuesday.
Pierce: While a number of lads were bathing near Junk’s mill on Detloff’s Lake, 15-year-old Wensel Vlach was suddenly taken with cramps and drowned before assistance could be rendered.
