Haney Park to receive new playground equipment

Posted

KEWAUNEE – Following a review by the Kewaunee Public Works Committee on Dec. 5, the Kewaunee City Council on Dec. 9 approved a recommendation to replace the playground equipment at Haney Park, located behind the ball field off First Street in Kewaunee.

Kewaunee City Administrator Heath Eddy said that staff believes an upgrade to this playground benefits this park as well as the park on Sheldon/Miller streets, where the removed equipment can be used for spare parts.
“Staff received proposals from BCI Burke and Little Tikes, but the Burke options are all lower costs.

So the previous equipment purchase for Father Marquette Park was also Burke and staff liked their efficiency, their work ethic and their approach. They were very efficient in their replacement, so staff was pretty enthusiastic to get these bids from them,” he said.

To that end, we received three options for replacing that equipment… the middle point option —option No. 1 — was the one that was actually selected by the Public Works Committee. Staff also likes that one.”

Option No. 1 consists of a 32-foot-by-28-foot unit with seven play areas to accommodate 31 users at a cost of $20,217.

“It’s a nice looking piece of equipment; it looks pretty balanced. It’s got a nice symmetry to it.

What will happen is the current apparatus will be disassembled and the property equipment will be used as sort of fixtures for the Miller Sheldon Park area, because it’s a similar kind of equipment, but it’s got some rough, rough, rough shape, so we’ll be using it for parts, spare parts, essentially,” Eddy said.
“We’re also aware of equipment needs at Memorial-Kiewig Park, but staff also believes that one should be more beneficial under a more formal planning process because it’s a larger Park and there’s an opportunity to do something else there. So we wanted to wait on that one and do this one instead.”
