LUXEMBURG — Business students from Luxemburg-Casco High School are managing the newly opened Spartan School Store in the school's Atrium.
The store first opened to the public Feb. 4 as part of an event for the new school gymnasium dedication. It will also be open during parent-teacher conferences from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Feb. 22.
As part of an entrepreneurial program, the students are running the store facing responsibilities such as inventory and profits, all under the guidance of two business professionals. Business and Personal Finance Teacher Tracy Bins is overseeing them, while Quali T Screening President Susan Heim, a fellow entrepreneur, is mentoring them.
Luxemburg-Casco High School principal Troy Haws voices his goal to build the program further and partner with local businesses as a way to get students involved in work-based experiences.
“These are learning opportunities that the students don’t get in the classroom, and the biggest plus is the leadership roles that develop from involvement," he said.
The students are also planning to open an online store that will include some of the school store's apparel, as well as Instagram and Facebook pages.
