Invest in broadband? Kewaunee County seeks feedback in online poll

KEWAUNEE COUNTY – Residents are being asked by the County Administrator's office to take part in an online poll about the county's possible investment in local broadband internet access.

An investment in broadband is expected to be part of the next county budget. But before a financial figure is allocated for 2019, the county wants to hear from residents through Polco, an online public survey system used by Kewaunee County to gather input on local issues.

“We have $40,000 in the form of a Broadband Expansion Grant, but we need to invest much more to make a noticeable difference for residents and business owners who want
and need high-speed internet access,” County Administrator Scott Feldt said. “The public needs to tell us what they think Kewaunee County should commit to broadband for an internet connection that meets industry standards.”

The multiple-choice question on Polco asks: Should Kewaunee County invest money into broadband internet access, if so, how much?

The choices are: Less than $500,000; $500,000 to $1 million; $1 million or greater; or None — Kewaunee County should not invest in broadband internet access.
