Karen Ann Irene Vandenhouten Smith

Our dear mother, Karen Ann Irene Vandenhouten Smith, of Thiry Deams, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 82. She was born on July 10, 1942, in Dyckesville to the late Norman and Martha (Cravillion) Vandenhouten. She married Robert P. Smith Sr. On August 30, 1961. Together they farmed and raised seven children. She was a practicing LPN for several years before working for the Bank of Luxemburg. She was a loving mother who always offered valuable advice and support to her children and grandchildren. She was very devoted to her faith. She enjoyed sewing, mending, crocheting, cutting hay, camping, her road trips, playing cards, and our wagon rides to the Frosty Tip.

Survivors include her seven children, Robert J. “Toby”(Wanda) Smith, Lori (Rick) Hegnet, all of Luxemburg; Annette (Dennis) Kinnard, Carol (special Friend Vaugh) Smith, all of Casco; Dan (Julie) Smith, New Franken; Mary (Mark) Wesolowski, Luxemburg; Theresa “Terri” (Brian) Wavrunek, Kewaunee; 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Neil (Dawn) Vandenhouten, Milwaukee; Tom Vandenhouten, Chris(Tom) Zellner, New Franken; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Dufek, Luxemburg; Nancy Smith, Luxemburg; one brother in law Bernar (Gerrie) Smith, Green Bay; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents; one infant child; one brother Alan Vandenhouten; one sister-in-law Bertha (Marvin) Villers; one brother-in-law Joesph Smith; and many aunts and uncles.

 Friends may call 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the McMahon Funeral Home, Luxemburg.  Parish Rosary at 6:00 pm Friday.  Visitation will continue between 9:00 and 10:45 am on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. Louis Church, Dyckesville.  Funeral 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Rommel DaCoco officiating.  Burial in St. Louis Cemetery, Dyckesville.  funerals@mcmahonfh.com
