Kay I. Nemetz, 82, Algoma, passed away Monday, August 25, 2026, at the Amethyst Health of Algoma after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer with family by her side.
She was born May 28, 1944, in Green Bay to Roy and Irene (Kolstad) Koss. Kay graduated from the Algoma High School in 1962 and then graduated from the University of Stout with a Master’s degree in Home Economics.
Kay married Eugene Nemetz, July 22, 1967, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma.
Kay was a lifelong 4H member from the age of 10. She participated in numerous activities and travel exchanges. Kay even met Eugene at one of these exchanges at the Dana farm. She was active in club leadership and judging at several county fairs. She was recognized for her efforts by 4H leadership. Her love of sewing began with 4H and continued throughout the entirety of her life. Kay was a teacher for over 50 years both as a full time and substitute teacher at many local schools. She was also a proud member of the Red Hatters Club, HCE, and served as President of WFLA.
Kay is survived by her husband Eugene, daughter Kami (Dave) Lubinski and son Geno Nemetz; sister Karen (Ron) Koelling and brother Kelly (Cindy) Koss; sister-in-law, Helen Nemetz; brother-in-law, Terry Fulwiler; grandchildren Malcom and Connor Lubinski; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Eugene and Jayn (Roff) Nemetz; sister Kris (Koss) Fulwiler, sisters-in-law Patricia (Nemetz) (Vaughn) Martin, Barbara Nemetz; brothers-in-law John Nemetz, Gary Porter.
Family and friends may gather at the Schinderle Funeral Home, 1600 Schinderle Lane, Algoma, Wednesday September 2, 2026, from 4:00PM to 6:00 PM. They also may gather at the Kewaunee Community Congregational Church, 502 Center St, Kewaunee, Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial at Riverview Cemetery, followed by light lunch back at the church.
The family wants to say a special thank you to all the staff at Amethyst Health Care of Algoma, for the care and kindness given to Kay during her stay there. Also, great appreciation to Judy Oftedahl and Gloria Peterson for their compassion and friendship during mom’s struggle.
