Kewaunee, Algoma, Manitowoc groups team to highlight scenic Lake Michigan drive

Posted

The Kewaunee and Algoma chambers of commerce have partnered with the Manitowoc Area Visitor & Convention Bureau to launch a new online effort to get more people to enjoy the scenes and visit places along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

The three visitor centers joined forces for "Scenic Hwy. 42," a project designed to encourage visitors to use State 42 when heading through northeast Wisconsin and enjoy the amenities available on the lake in Kewaunee and Manitowoc counties.

The state highway is part of the Lake Michigan Circle Tour and, besides being used by visitors planning to stay in the area, often is used by tourists heading to or from Door County who are looking for a more leisurely trip with sights to see and things to do along the way.

The project, which was awarded a Joint Effort Marketing Grant received from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, provides a website — scenichwy42.com — that offers information on points of interest and activities in Algoma, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Two Rivers and other places on the route.

Pages on the site go into more detail on the lighthouses, beaches, recreational trails, museums, charter fishing excursions and other attractions that can be found in the area.

A tall ship on the horizon sails past Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse as people gather on Crescent Beach.

In addition, news and updates can be found on the project's Facebook page, facebook.com/ScenicHWY42WI.
