Kewaunee County awarded $40,000 grant to increase high-speed internet access

KEWAUNEE - Kewaunee County has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in the latest round of Broadband Expansion Grants to increase its high-speed internet access.

The county will use the money to build a wireless tower and install a fixed wireless service in a location to be determined.

“The next step of this process is to figure out the best placement for this tower,” said County Administrator Scott Feldt. “Technology is improving at a rapid rate, so our internet access needs a boost too.”

“Not only do our businesses need to stay connected, but our visitors are dialed into their smart phones and we need to keep them interested with a strong signal when searching for places to explore, stay, dine and shop,” said Jennifer Schneider, the county's Tourism Coordinator and Public Information Officer.

A press release from the county said it plans to have the project completed by the end of the year.
