Kewaunee County COVID-19 cases nearly double over the past week to 25 as more tests come in

Kewaunee County has seen a spike over the past week in positive tests for the coronavirus virus, with the county's Public Health Department reporting 25 cases as of Tuesday afternoon.

One week before, the county reported 13 positive tests. That number increased to 15 as of Friday afternoon, 20 as of Sunday and 22 Monday.

Cindy Kinnard, the county Public Health Director, said the rise can be attributed to the increasing number of tests of county residents and increasing number of results coming in.

When Kinnard reported 13 positives to the county board on April 28, it was based on 170 test results, with 157 negative and another 41 pending. Since then, the county has received 105 more results, for a total of 275 completed, with 59 pending. The proportion of positive results in the county is slightly below the state average, with 9.1% coming back positive compared to 9.3% statewide.

Fifteen of the 25 positive cases are active with nine cleared and one death, which happened three weeks ago. All appear to be the result of community spread of the virus, Kinnard said, and none are hospitlized
