KEWAUNEE COUNTY – On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Wisconsin partisan primary election took place. At the time of publication, all results are unofficial.
Sheriff race
Eric Zellner topped the unofficial count at 2,711 votes, while Scott Szydel received 1,606 and Kevin Schmidt 339.
Governor
David Crowley won the Democratic nomination in Kewaunee County with 717 votes, with Francesca Hong as the next most-voted candidate with 531 votes. Tom Tiffany won the Republican nomination with 3,972 votes, while closest runner-up Andy Manske received 386.
Lieutenant Governor
David Varnam topped the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor with 2,240 votes, with runner-up Will Martin receiving 1,487. Sarah Godlewski topped the Democratic nomination with 1,508 votes.
Attorney General
Josh Kaul was Kewaunee County’s favorite Democrat for Attorney General with 1,533 votes, while Republican Eric Toney won the county’s approval with 3,675 votes.
Secretary of State
Jay Schroeder topped the Republican nomination for Secretary of State with 1,993 votes, while closest runner-up Cindy Werner received 727. Jocasta Zamarripa won the county’s race among Democratic nominees with 1,448 votes. Pete Karas, running as the Wisconsin Green Party, received two votes.
State Treasurer
John S. Leiber secured the approval of the county’s Republicans with 3,567 votes. Yee Leng Xiong topped the Democratic nomination by 750 votes --- just 35 more compared to closest runner-up Dylan Ray Helmenstine’s 715.
Congressional – District 8
Tony Wied topped the Republican race with 4,039 votes. Democrat Rick Crosson received the most votes with 707, while closest runner-up Katrina Deville received 425.
State Senate – District 1
Republican Nic Cravillion won Kewaunee County’s approval by a landslide — 2,956 votes compared to closest runner-up Jacob Vandenplas’ 584. A Democratic nominee for State Senate – District 1 has not been named at the time of publication.
Assembly – District 1
Joel Kitchens topped the Republican primary with 4,037 votes, while Renee A. Paplham received the majority of the county’s Democratic votes at 1,472.
Clerk of Circuit Court
Jennie Ledvina secured the Republican nomination for Clerk of Circuit Court with 3,909 votes. No Democratic candidate was named at the time of publication.
