KEWAUNEE COUNTY - Thomas Cretney will be the new District 10 County Board supervisor after his name was drawn following a tie vote in the April 4 election.
The Kewaunee County Board of Canvassers completed its verification of ballots from the election on Tuesday, and the 102-102 tie between Cretney and John Wochos still stood after the canvass.
The canvassers also confirmed Kent Treml and Kim Kroll as winners of write-in votes in Districts 5 and 13, respectively. Treml was named on 9 ballots of 23 cast, enough to give him a majority, and Kroll was named on 61 of 74 ballots. Kroll takes over for John Pagel, who was running for re-election before he died in a Feb. 22 plane crash.
No other board seats changed hands after the canvass.
The County Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. April 24 to elect a chairman and name committee members.
Meanwhile, write-in votes decided alderperson seats in otherwise uncontested races in Algoma and Kewaunee. Those results have been confirmed by the cities.
Scott Meverden will be the new District 2 alderperson in Algoma after earning 21 write-ins. Jim Anderson tallied six votes and 14 votes went to others. Meverden and Anderson were registered write-in candidates.
Jamie Jackson will be the District 2 alderperson in Kewaunee, defeating registered write-in candidate Alison Smith, according the the City Clerk's office. Jackson received 20 votes to Smith’s 17 and 13 for Brian Kranz.
